The Allied Museum tells the story of the Western powers and Berlin from the period of 1945 to 1994. In the summer of 1945 their troops came to the city as victors and occupiers. Almost 50 years later they left Berlin as allies and friends. What were the events leading to this change, and what were the decisive stations?

The permanent exhibitions offer answers to these and similar questions. In addition to this, events and special exhibitions are staged which have the task of keeping alive the historical memory of this dramatic era in German and international history.

The museum consists of two buildings and the open-air grounds.
The exhibition is organised chronologically, and starts with the moment the three Western Powers marched into their Berlin sectors after the German defeat in the Second World War. It ends with the common euphoria over the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of both German states in October 1990.

The heart of the collection are the estates of several former Bauhaus artists such as Walter Gropius, Herbert Beyer, Lucia Maholy and Georg Muche. In addition, there are exhibits representing part of numerous other estates anjd individual pieces from all fields and workshops.
The Bauhaus Archives are concerned with precursors to Bauhaus during the 19th and 20th centuries, and with following institutions such as the New Bauhaus in Chicago.

This museum exhibits paintings, sculptures, watercolours, drawings, printed graphics and other works by the group of expressionist artists "Die Brücke", whose members included Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Max Pechstein, Emil Nolde, Erich Heckel and Ernst-Ludwig Kirchner. The.museum is exclusively devoted to the works of this group.
"Die Brücke". Founded 1905 in Dresden, this was the first avant-garde artists' group in Germany during the 20th century. "Die Brücke" moved to Berlin in 1910 and disbanded there in 1913.
A tour of this small but very attractive museum begins in room 1 with works from the early years of Brücke in Dresden; works still in a primarily neo-impressionist style. In Room 2, the mature period of the "Brücke" in Dresden and Berlin up until 1913 is presented. The third room is devoted to other works produced by Schmidt-Rottluff and Heckel after the artists' group dissolved in 1913. Room 4 displays late works by the "Brücke" artists, but also a selection of works by their friends Max Kaus and Anton Kerschberger.
A permanent exhibition is frequently on tour, but at such times high quality special exhibitions are presented.

The house exhibits photos, documents and objects concerning the history and development of the Berlin Wall and the non-violent struggle for human rights.
The main attraction of the museum is the section of the exhibition devoted to the history of the Berlin Wall, which includes original objects from successful escapes; cars remodelled for the purpose of flight, a mini submarine which pulled a refugee through the Baltic Sea, two hot air balloons and home-made motorized kites.
A specific section is dedicated to Checkpoint Charlie, from which the house takes its name, probably the most famous border crossing between East and West Berlin.
The reason for the foundation of the House at Checkpoint Charlie was the building of the Berlin Wall on the 13th August 1961 and its consequences: in the first year after the building of the Wall, more than 40 deaths were recorded following incidents at the borders.
The exhibition have texts in German, English, French and Russian.

In January 1999 the museum closed for reconstruction. It will probably be reopened in 2003. Until then smaller exhibitions can be viewed in Kronprinzenpalais, located opposite the museum.
The future permanent exhibition will contain artefacts and documents of German history than can be seen in as varied a frame of reference as possible. From the 9th century to the present, the political, social and economic aspects of German history will be depicted in reference to the history of Europe. The real core of these display spaces are the period rooms, in which visitors are walking through the epochs from the beginnings of the German history up to the present.
The "Zeughaus" is the oldest building located on the avenue Unter den Linden. it is one of the most beautiful secular buildings of the Baroque period in northern Germany and owes its special place in art history to the high quality of its sculptural works.
From 1731 to 1836 the Zeughaus was used as an arsenal by the Prussian military. The building served to store weapons' depot in Brandenburg-Prussia.

The Berlin Wall East Side Gallery is a 1,3 km-long surviving section of the wall near the center of Berlin. Approximately 106 paintings by 118 artists from 21 countries cover the memorial for freedom, and make it the largest open air gallery in the world with their interpretation of the theme "enviroment, tolerance and peace"..
In the late 1980s Berlin couldn't wait to see the hated wall come down. Now some are on a rescue mission to save the barrier as a huge historical canvas. It is not a symbol of division, but rather a document of a turning point and a new departure. What was painted on the eastern side of the Wall belonged to all of Berlin. It doesn't matter to many whether offices or apartments will be built on the strip of land sloping down to the Spree River behind the Wall, but the Wall itself must remain. Apart from its historical significance, it provides an ideal sound barrier for the six-lane road nearby, which often assumes race-track qualities.
Now the problem is that some of the pictures are already hardly reconizable - deteriorated through weather, air pollution, vandalistic collectors and simply time, although the gallery has been a listed monument since 1992.
Yet there still is hope for the now gray East Side Gallery. The Artist Initiative East Side Gallery e.V. has for several years has been making an effort to preserve the wall strip.

In November 1997 the world's finest museum for 20th century avant-garde art finally opened its Berlin branch in the building of the Deutsche bank.
The Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin is situated on Unter den Linden in the old and new centre of Berlin. The museum's unusual name derives from its initiators- Deutsche Bank and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation- and of course from its location, Berlin. This cooperation represents a unique joint venture between a bank and a museum. The exhibition program and the day-to-day management of the museum are the joint responsibility of the two partners.
The exhibition space hosts three to four important exhibitions each year, many of which showcase a work specially commissioned by an artist (archive).
Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin is located on the ground floor of the Deutsche Bank premises, a sandstone building constructed in 1920. The American architect Richard Gluckman designed the 510-square-metre art gallery.
There are daily guided tours at 6 pm.

The central selection is composed of works by Joseph Beuys, Andy warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Tombly and Anselm Kiefer.
The central figure is Joseph Beuys, who shapes the collection with an impressive ensemble of installations and the unique work "Secret Block for a Secret Person in Ireland", which is comprised of around 450 drawing.

The Pergamon Museum houses the collection of antiquity (Pergamon Altar, Market Gate of Miletus), the Museum of Near East (Gate of Ishtar, Processional Street of Babylon) and the Museum of Islamic Art (Mshatta façade).
It is world famous for its exemplary presentation of ancient architecture.
The collection of antiquity here is one of the largest in the world. Works of ancient architecture, sculpture and small art objects from twelve centuries are arranged chronologically, thematically and geographically. Scale reconstructions of architectural fragments incorporate surviving original finds, so the visitor is able to gain an impression of the spatial effect and proportions of ancient architecture.
The exhibition of the museum of the Near East convays an impression of around 6000 years of history, culture and art in the Near East. It is displayed in the southern wing of the Pergamon Museum and is also rich in architectural monuments. The processional street of Babylon runs along the main axis of the museum, leading the Ischtar Gate. The huge reconstructed walls of the
splendid Babylonian buildings, made in glowing enamel bricks, are the great attraction. Other splendid works of ancient near eastern monumental architecture include the sections of brightly coloured pegged mosaic wall.
